In New York City, child protective services (CPS) workers and police are jointly responding to child maltreatment calls so kids endure less trauma during the initial investigation.
Through the Instant Response Team (IRT) program, incoming allegations of child maltreatment are immediately appraised for their apparent severity. For those situations that may involve a criminal offense, the IRT system is activated and representatives from the city's Administration for Children's Services (ACS) and the New York City Police Department (NYPD) get to the scene as quickly as possible.
