Apr. 9--HIROSHIMA, Japan--Chugoku Electric Power Co. said Wednesday it has developed a new system that will dissolve jellyfish with an enzyme extracted from bacteria in the ocean.
The new system is to enable the Hiroshima-based utility firm to cut the cost of getting rid of jellyfish that block off the intake of ocean water used for cooling its nuclear and thermal power generating systems, company officials said.
The system was developed through joint work with Takeshi Naganuma, assistant professor at Hiroshima University, and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd., they said.
