The future Commissioner's transport priorities do not really contain any surprises, the five axes described by Jacques Barrot being precisely those previously outlined by Francois Lamoureux, Director-General at the Commission's DG Transport/Energy, when he appeared before the European Parliament's Transport Committee in July (see issue 2890). The priorities will therefore be to develop concrete measures to encourage sustainable development, improve passengers' rights, develop a global approach to safety and security, establish a pan-European infrastructure network, and develop the external component of transport policy.
