The kernel of truth behind that laugh line is an important message John Eland imparts to the hopefuls who participate in classes at the Cleveland Pre-Employment Training Program he has been running for five years on the city's West Side.
The program offers training for entry-level manufacturing jobs to men and women whose lack of education or work history otherwise would make them suspect candidates for employment. West Side employers who want to ensure a reliable flow of qualified workers finance the program.
