Sep. 23--With higher energy prices hitting consumers and many merchants experiencing weak back-to-school sales, U.S. retailers could face a "ho hum holiday season" this fall, a Wall Street analyst predicted Wednesday.
Lehman Bros. analyst Alan Rifkin offered that initial long-range forecast on the approaching holiday season, predicting overall U.S. retail sales will rise a modest 3 percent to 4 percent compared with the 5.2 percent gain that merchants posted for the same period last year over 2002.
