Aug. 1--FORT WAYNE, Ind.--The jobless rate fell to 4.8 percent in the Fort Wayne metro area in June, as the unemployment rate fell in almost every county in northeast Indiana. The two exceptions were Allen and LaGrange counties, where the jobless rate was unchanged.
Huntington and Steuben counties recorded the steepest declines in their unemployment rates, both down 0.6 percentage point. Steuben County, which has been hit hard by the manufacturing recession, still has the highest unemployment rate in the area -- 5.8 percent in June.
The jobless rate for the city of Fort Wayne was 6.3 percent, much higher than Allen County or the region as a whole.
