2004 SEP 27 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Genes linked to centrosome abnormalities in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) have been identified through microarray analysis.
"Centrosomes, which mediate accurate chromosome segregation during mitosis, undergo duplication precisely once per cell division at the G[subscript]1/S boundary," scientists in Germany explained.
"Recently, we described centrosome aberrations as a possible cause of aneuploidy" in AML, and "found a correlation of the percentage of cells carrying abnormal centrosomes to their cytogenetic risk profile," noted K. Neben and colleagues at the Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum in Heidelberg. "To ...
