Q. I have a young oak tree that has some leaves that are light green. Do you have any idea about what is happening and what I can do about it?
A. Plants growing in soils that are highly alkaline often show the chlorosis (lack of chlorophyll in leaves due to a plant's inability to absorb soil iron necessary for chlorophyll formation) you describe in your oak tree.
The light green/yellow color appears between the veins of the newest leaves. Older leaves remain green unless the tree has grown in very alkaline soil for a long period of time.
