In the proving ground that is the minor leagues, Colorado Rockies shortstop Clint Barmes has made countless plays in the hole.
Sunday, in his 26th game in the majors and 14th this season, he surprised himself by completing a running backhanded play from the hole.
With Los Angeles' Adrian Beltre batting in the fifth inning, the Rockies ahead by one run, two out and a runner on second, Barmes did the unexpected.
