Campaigning will start soon for the fourth post-revolution majlis elections on 10 April. The Interior Ministry asked candidates to register in mid-March for vetting by the 12-member Constitutional Guardians Council, by 1 April.
At stake are 270 seats, including 30 from Tehran. Candidates who do not win with at least one-third of the vote on 10 April will have to go into a run-off round later in the month. The minimum voting age is 15. The new majlis is scheduled to take over in late May.
Attention during the campaign, starting 1 April, will be on the radical opponents of President Rafsanjani, who are in danger of losing some of the 30-40 seats they hold. ...
