TWO WHOLESALERS RECENTLY appealed six-figure fines ordered by the Arkansas State Board of Pharmacy for failing to report the suspicious sale of pseudoephedrine, the key ingredient to making illegal methamphetamine.

For the first time, the pharmacy board issued fines in June against wholesalers in an attempt to reduce the hundreds of meth labs operating in Arkansas.

Cliff McQuay Sales Co. of Bono was fined $163,000 and Landmark Novelties Inc., which also used the name Landmark Networks, of Quincy, Ill., was fined $175,000. The board also suspended for one year McQuay's license to sell "list one" chemicals, which includes ephedrine and pseudoephedrine. ...
