Phyllis Gibson saw information about Schools of Hope volunteer tutoring in the newspaper four years ago. Now she is hooked:
"When I first started volunteering, I never knew these young children could soak up knowledge so quickly. When I responded to the blurb in the newspaper, I just thought This is a small thing I can do, this is a little way I can help.'
"I was amazed that when a child is learning, that child feels so good about it and is so excited. If you give a child a little extra time, even 15 minutes just for themselves, individually, to show them you care, you will be rewarded by how much they can do and how good they feel.
