THE OTTAWA UNDERACHIEVERS went a strange route to get a spark from the coaching staff when they hired Bryan Murray, whose history as a bench boss never has included real success in the playoffs.
Clearly, it was time to part with Jacques Martin, who had taken this talent-laden squad as far as he could. The disappointing first-round ouster by Toronto this year emphasized the need for a change.
"I think we made an excellent choice and found the right fit for this team," Senators owner Eugene Melnyk said.
