WHEN THE COLORADO AVALANCHE bowed out of the playoffs last spring, they knew they could be saying goodbye to three of the NHUs biggest stars over the past decade.
Peter Forsberg might return to his native Sweden to finish off his hockey career, even if the NHL does not have a labor stoppage. That would rob Colorado of the league's best overall player, a superbly skilled center with a mean streak, a tremendous work ethic and an unchallenged ability to lead in a quiet but effective manner.
Teemu Selanne has talked about ending his pro hockey days in his native Finland, and Paul Kariya has considered joining his good buddy back in Scandinavia.
