Sep. 28--OSAKA, Japan -- Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. and Matsushita Electric Works Ltd. said Tuesday they will restructure operations to eliminate unnecessary duplication by mutually transferring businesses.

The restructuring plan calls for Matsushita Electric Industrial to transfer its electric materials business to Matsushita Electric Works by next Jan. 1 and that for housing equipment by April 1.

Products subject to the transfer include system kitchens, water purifiers and intercoms for multidwelling units.
