Services were held Thursday for Edward (Skip) Karbo Jr., who as an employee of Apple Computer arranged for a 1987 grant from Apple that helped make St. Paul's Saturn School of Tomorrow a reality. Karbo died of a rare cancer Sept. 17. He was 56.
Karbo left the University of Minnesota in the fall of 1966 when he was drafted by the Army for service in Vietnam. He saw a lot of combat in a truck unit and as a helicopter door gunner, but rarely talked about it, said his wife, Karen. He felt so uncomfortable coming back to the United States in 1968 that he reenlisted for a year to become a drill instructor at Fort Campbell, Ky.
