OLD-FASHIONED cures for insomnia such as counting sheep are more effective than sleeping pills, a study shows.

Researchers at Harvard Medical School found poor sleepers benefited more from simple relaxation techniques than medication.

They said the findings showed that millions of people who suffer from insomnia should not automatically turn to sleeping pills. A third of Britons have difficulty sleeping at least once a week.
