Sep. 28--Fort Benning and the Columbus Water Works have finalized a deal that was 11 years in the making.
Beginning Friday, the water works will take over operation of the Fort Benning water and wastewater treatment facilities. All that is needed for the deal to be completed is final approval from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Fort Worth, Texas.
It is the third Fort Benning utility to be privatized since 1999.
The Army previously privatized natural gas and electric services.
