Sep. 26--SUNNYSIDE, Wash. -- The Lower Valley has long been heralded as the birthplace of Washington wines, but few realize the contributions the rich land from Prosser to Yakima make to the beer industry.
These are vines of a different kind.
About 75 percent of the nation's hops are grown in Yakima and Benton counties, accounting for 25 percent of world hop production.
