Sep. 28--Augusta State University must trim nearly $1 million from its budget as a result of cuts to the state budget, cuts ASU President William A. Bloodworth Jr. calls "unfair."
ASU will have to continue a hiring freeze, eliminate a grants office and look internally for replacements for two retiring vice presidents.
Dr. Bloodworth said he is not sure whether layoffs will be needed, but a proposed midyear tuition increase of 10 percent would help ASU make up about $500,000. A decision on the tuition increase has not been finalized.
