Move predates recent national endorsement for crime trials

By the end of the year, a local biotechnology company hopes to offer the improved DNA fingerprinting methods that a national panel recommended last week.

Ambis Systems Inc. last month acquired the rights to a technology that would "take the subjectivity out of the testing," said Steve Kenney, the company's chief executive officer.

Human errors, such as misinterpreting data, can crop up in this type of testing, Kenney said. He claims his firm's new method can cut down on those types of mistakes.
