Sep. 16--Rhode Island has earned an F in college affordability, along with 35 other states, according to the latest national report card on higher education.
It's the third straight time the National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education has flunked Rhode Island, following similar "Measuring Up" report cards in 2000 and 2002.
But the center gives the state higher grades in four other areas: student participation, student preparation, the percentage of students who receive bachelor degrees within six years, and the economic and civic benefits to the state of having a more highly educated work force.
