Sep. 30--TAMPA, Fla. -- Someone other than hurricanes Charley, Frances and Jeanne is robbing 2,000 customers in southeastern Hillsborough County and southern Polk County of telephone service.
On Wednesday, Verizon Communications Inc. said someone has made off with six 10-kilowatt generators that power remote telephone switching equipment. That equipment provides Verizon service in rural areas, said Bob Elek, company spokesman.
