LOS ANGELES -- The California Supreme Court Thursday declined to hear a challenge to a half-cent sales tax increase that will fund widespread transportation improvements for the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission.
The high court let stand a March ruling by the California Second Appellate District Court of Appeal that found the sales tax increase did not violate certain voting thresholds imposed by the state constitution.
Commission officials anticipated prevailing in the case, but they welcomed last week's affirmation of the appellate court ruling because it eliminates uncertainty over the validity of the tax.
