PROJECT OVERVIEW:
The local SOUTHERN PERU COPPER CO. (SPCC), a subsidiary of GRUPO MEXICO of Mexico, recently awarded a sulfuric acid plant construction contract to Canada-based KVAERNER CHEMETICS INC. The planned facility is intended to enable the capture of off-gases coming from SPCC's smelter located at Ilo, Peru.
Construction plans call for building a plant with an installed production capacity of 3,760 metric tons per day. According to the terms of the award, KVAERNER CHEMETICS will be responsible for the provision of design, supply, erection and commissioning services.
