BLACK BRITISH STYLE
This is the first major UK celebration of 'Black Britain's' very particular style and impact on the look and culture of our wider society. Dress, fashion and styling are at its heart, explored via a thematic exhibition structure that runs from black pride to hip-hop. A section on religion considers how dressing up for church has shaped style and the Rastas get a look in too.
Exhibits range from starry showstoppers like Mis-Teeq's outfits from their 'Scandalous' single to the touchingly personal: the elegant 'arrival' outfit that Dr Beryl Gilroy chose when she emigrated to Britain in 1952, for instance.
