After 111 years, Van Heusen contends it's #1.
One side is claiming a major battle victory in the dress shirt war that's been raging for over a century. But the conflict is far from over.
Phillips-Van Heusen Corp. contends its Van Heusen label has overtaken Arrow for the first time. It likens the move to Pepsi's someday surpassing Coke or Avis's eclipsing Hertz. For P-VH it took 111 years to accomplish.
P-VH's proof comes from a 1991 MRCA Information Services study it commissioned, which tracked dress-shirt market share in department, specialty and outlet stores and catalog businesses.
