Oct. 1--After a long, expensive summer on the road, it may be a long, expensive winter at home.
Heating oil and natural gas are expected to follow crude oil, gasoline and diesel fuel up in price over the next few months, according to experts, threatening to bring higher-than-normal cold-weather utility costs.
Hampton Roads residents -- especially those on a budget -- are not looking forward to the financial hit.
"When your bills go up and you don't have much money in the beginning, it poses a problem," said retiree Evelyn Pitt, 69, who heats her Norfolk home with natural gas.
