There is more than meets the eye to Saudi Arabia's border dispute with Yemen. Saudi warnings to oil companies to stop exploring near the boundary are seen in Sanaa as an effort by Riyadh to draw Yemen into negotiations over wider territorial issues.
British Petroleum announced in London Tuesday that it is suspending drilling on a Red Sea concession in Yemeni waters, because of the border dispute. But BP is continuing to drill at two onshore sites in Yemen.
BP, Atlantic Richfield and French Elf Aquitaine are seeking Saudi Arabia's tacit approval to carry on with Yemeni operations. Saudi sources say the companies will be allowed to continue exploring, ...
