Oct. 1--Community Development Director Gary Myrick is retiring after 16 years of deal-making that was often stymied by past city councils.
Myrick's job was to bring business into the city.
He is considered by some to have a genius for deal-making and a nuanced historical knowledge of the city.
Critics thought him abrasive and ineffective, putting the city's glut of warehouses and factories squarely on his shoulders.
