Expanding services key to growth for some firms

Through some belt-tightening, expansion of services and a few old-fashioned sales gimmicks, San Diego printing companies increased sales in 1991. Still, industry sources called it a tough year.

Last year was an improvement over past years. More than half of the 25 firms ranked on this year's list maintained or improved sales last year. And, combined revenue for the 25 firms increased 2 percent in 1991 to $108.39 million, up from $106.5 million the year before. Previously, overall sales had been on the decline.
