I am the child of two alcoholics. I grew up with drinking alcohol as a common, accepted behavior. I enjoyed drinking in college and as a young working adult. Then I married an alcoholic. He was able to drink heavily at night and go to work every morning. While I did not drink as heavily as he did, I drank with him in the evenings for lack of anything better to do.
After more than 20 years of this my husband became violent, and I was forced to leave. It was a profound relief when I found a suitable apartment, but now I had many new responsibilities. First, I had to find a job. While I have a wonderful education, the jobs for which I was educated were not open to ...
