A cost-effective, low-temperature, high-capacity method of producing pure hydrogen gas on demand from hydride-based solid materials has been developed by Ames Laboratory scientists Vitalij K Pecharsky and Viktor P.Balema (Iowa State University Research Foundation, 310 Lab of Mechanics, Ames, IA 50011-2131; Tel: 515/294.4740, email: licensing@iastate.edu).
The hydride-based solid material is mechanically processed by way of a milling apparatus in the presence of a catalyst to obtain pure gaseous hydrogen.
