Oct. 4--TOKYO -- Flight cancellations due to a series of typhoons have left Japan's major airlines with a loss totaling more than 5 billion yen as of the end of September.
All Nippon Airways posted a loss of more than 2 billion yen from a record 1,583 typhoon-related flight cancellations, while Japan Airlines, which cancelled about 1,500 flights, posted a loss totaling some 3 billion yen.
ANA said that the number of flight cancellations as of the end of September had more than doubled from last year's total of about 700 and that the number of affected passengers had nearly doubled to about 200,000 from 110,000.
