Oct. 5--Just 19 months after voting to join Laborers Union Local 1097, employees at Lake States Tree Service in Grand Rapids have decided to decertify.
By a 43-30 vote, they chose to quit the union. The results were certified Sept. 16 by the National Labor Relations Board. To retain union representation, the union would have needed to win majority support.
Glenn Perry, a tree service worker from Bovey, said he helped bring the Laborers Union into his workplace, but became disillusioned and later filed the petition that led to its decertification.
