GOVERNMENT proposals to license private landlords pose a threat to the buy-to-let market.
Under proposed government legislation, private landlords will have to be licensed in certain areas to curb anti-social tenant behaviour.
This is included in the Housing Bill, which had its second reading in the House of Commons last week.
The bill was attacked by opposition MPs for treating landlords in the private sector differently to those in the public sector.
They also continued objections to home improvement packs that they claimed could add to the cost of mortgages, but supported improvements to the right-to-buy scheme.
