Dec. 3--The cost of cable is going up. Starting Jan. 1, Time Warner Cable customers will pay an extra $2.16 a month for standard or digital service and another $1 month for the set-top box.
The cable system, which has more than 300,000 subscribers in the Austin area, will mail rate-increase notices to customers within a few days.
The rate increase amounts to a 5 percent rise for customers who receive the standard service package, which includes 76 channels. That service will cost $43.83 next year. Digital service will cost $49.18, plus $6.95 a month for the set-top box.
