SUSAN Everingham, recently promoted to director of international programs at Rand Corp., never planned on being involved in top-secret military projects. She just loved math.
"I know that makes me nerdy," said the 40-year-old Santa Monica native.
After receiving bachelor's degrees in mathematics and biology from Williams College in Massachusetts in 1985, Everingham moved to Los Angeles and taught ninth grade math. She was hired by Rand in 1987 to do mathematical modeling for ballistic missile and military satellite systems.
