Aug. 22--Even though the West Nile virus has not been found in New Mexico, local emergency services and health department officials do not want to take any chances.
State health department officials will hold a public meeting 6 p.m. Thursday at Riverside Elementary School, 9001 McNutt Road, in Sunland Park to present ways to prevent the virus from making its way into the state.
The mosquito-borne disease causes infected people to develop headaches, fever or muscle aches for a few days, but they generally feel better soon.
