Article: New Director Takes Over Rhode Island Technology Fund.

Sep. 4--The Rhode Island Economic Policy Council yesterday appointed Jerry Schaufeld as director of the state's $2.5-million Samuel Slater Technology Fund.

He takes over a position vacated by Joseph Hammang in April.

Hammang, who was with the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation before joining the EPC to oversee the Slater program, left the approximately $75,000-a-year job to join Pfizer Inc. in Connecticut.

Schaufeld will be responsible for running the five-year-old Slater program, which loans state money to small businesses and entrepreneurs. The four administrative units -- Slater Centers -- that dole ...
