Aug. 15--ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla.--Two competing projects that would bring megaplex movie theaters to the city cleared a critical hurdle Wednesday.
The city's planning board unanimously recommended preliminary plans for the first phase of the proposed Altamonte Town Center, which includes a 16-screen movie theater and two restaurants.
The board also approved preliminary plans for an 18-screen megaplex and two restaurants at Altamonte Mall. The mall is partners with AMC Entertainment Corp., the second-largest theater operator in the nation.
Few think the market exists for two regional-sized movie complexes so close ...
