LONDON (FNS) -- As part of his investment trade mission to Europe, New York Mayor David Dinkins came to Selfridges Tuesday to promote his city as a center for fashion design.
Some of the British apparel designers and manufacturers who breakfasted with Dinkins at the department store called the meeting interesting, but said there would have to be a followup by New York officials for Dinkin's visit to have any significant impact.
Paul Smith, who has a shop on Fifth Avenue in the Flatiron District, said he believes the image of New York has suffered over the last several years, which is why he has not expanded his business there. He instead is expanding in ...
