Mar. 20--Forget giant slaloms and bobsleds, the Olympics of cheese is taking place this week in Madison, as 15 judges rate cheeses in 37 categories.
With a record number of entries, this year's World Championship Cheese Contest includes cheeses and butter from 19 countries as diverse as Finland, Japan, Russia and New Zealand, said John T. Umhoefer, executive director of the Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association in Madison.
There are 1,132 entries this year, up 999 from 2001, and 15 judges, two more than last year, Umhoefer said. Six of the judges come from outside the United States, he said. Finding judges isn't hard, ...
