Dance teachers often wonder how best to enable students to improve physically and cognitively and to develop critical thinking skills in dance. Feedback is essential to improvement, and dance teachers can learn to use the power of feedback to motivate, reinforce, correct, teach analytical skills, and engage students on a meaningful level. This article defines feedback, presents three important functions of feedback, identifies the four forms of feedback, gives examples of diverse types of feedback for a variety of dance genres, and discusses factors that will guide the dance educator's selection of appropriate feedback.
