Feb. 10--Almost a third of executives do not understand the text messages they receive. They are baffled by the complex abbreviations, despite the growing popularity of texting at work.

More than 12 billion text messages were sent last year, and a growing proportion were business-related, according to a report by the Mobile Data Association.

MDA chairman Mike Short said: "Executives are finding that texting is the new first-class post.

"It's quick, it's convenient, and often faster than leaving a voicemail message.
