The days are drawing in and all the flowers are fading. We may have some lovely weather yet but we know it is running out fast. A damp greyness is as much as we can expect between now and Christmas. But, even in this gloom, berries come to the rescue, firing a flare of colour into the darkness. We tend to take berries for granted, as though they are an afterthought or a byproduct from summer flowers, but some are the best thing about the plant and it is worth waiting all year for their particular display.
