Duran Duran may have been the darlings of the New Romantics in the dizzy heydays of the eighties, but the band started life in a Birmingham pub in the late 1970s.
Founded by Nick Rhodes and John Taylor over a lunchtime drink, the Duran Duran we know and love today - who release their latest album Astronaut this week - could have been called a more mundane RAF, had it not been for the villain in the cult 1968 sci-fi film Barbarella.
