You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink, or so the old saying goes. So it may be with the American wine drinker and New Zealand pinot noir.
The Kiwis are winning praise from wine pros around the world who say New Zealand pinot noir may be among the best in the world. More pinot noir vines are being planted and more wine produced. Yet prices remain high.
"Pricing has definitely been an issue," said Shebnem Ince, general manager of Chicago's Que Syrah Fine Wines.
"What New Zealanders are asking for their pinot noir is a little more than people are willing to pay for uncharted pinot noir territory."
