WHAT IS PINOT NOIR?
Pinot noir is a dry red wine that originally comes from the Burgundy region of France. When people rave about a "red Burgundy," they are talking about pinot noir. The fragile, finicky pinot noir grape can produce some of the world's most collectible wines or a thin "breakfast wine" without much to it. Some of the best and most popular pinot noir today come from Burgundy, Oregon and several areas of California, among them the Sonoma coast, the Santa Barbara wine region and one of the newest sources of quality pinot noir, Monterey's Santa Lucia Highlands.
