Oct. 12--The offer by a Dutch international bank to buy a federal Farm Credit System association in Omaha, Neb., has touched off speculation that similar cooperatives and lending institutions might become takeover targets.
If units of the Farm Credit System can be taken over, cooperative and community credit people are beginning to ask if the same can be true for other government-supported credit institutions, like credit unions and home-loan banks.
